Hey everyone, It has been a hard couple of days. I decided to test the tomato theory on whether tomatoes make us sore. I had read it on a Chinese Medicine site and thought it might just be a strange theory. I had done some research on tomatoes and Endometriosis and many of the sites concluded that tomatoes were actually really good for Endometriosis as it claimed to reduce adhesions in the body.
So, I had a big bowl of tomatoes, cooked and with some sundried tomatoes through it too. It was very tasty and I felt fine for about 2hrs after eating it. Then, 2hrs later, the soreness began. At first I thought perhaps I was just “putting it there” with my mind but then as the day progressed, it started to get worse. I had this hot flush kinda feeling, Endo soreness, nausea and also my tummy ache returned – which I had healed quite well last week. I tried to think of other possible causes …. perhaps I just was a little stressed or perhaps it was the wrong time of the month but I had already done my “ovulation days” two days before and I was fine two days ago.
I know this is just my opinion and I would REALLY like your opinion cos maybe I am just allergic to tomatoes. I think they are NO GOOD. I am definitely going to cut them out or at least reduce them substantially in my diet. Sure it could be all sorts of other reasons but I don’t want to feel this lausy again for testing the idea.
So, if you have tried the experiment, try it and please write your comments below on what you experienced with tomatoes:

Tomatoes also make my endo flair up and would give me asthma attacks. I have been doing the BIE allergy treatments and it has changed my life! I can eat wheat and dairy now – even drink beer! Fresh tomatoes still aren’t great but no more asthma!
That is cool! What is the BIE allergy treatment all about? Do share!
Since I’m still new to your site, I am reading posts gradually, and came to this one. I too couldn’t stand tomatoes as a child (my Mom apparently ate too many when she was pregnant with me!) and even now, I avoid them, and will only eat them occasionally.
I do however love tomato sauce (All Gold).
I haven’t noticed whether or not there is a connection between endo and tomatoes, so will now be more aware when I do happen to it them.
Hi XQ, Interesting
I think the amount of actual tomatoes in All Gold is not that high – I think it may contain quite abit of sugar
It is always interesting when we find strange connections like this! Some girls say they get the same reaction from grapes
I have endometriosis and every time I ate tomatoes I felt horrible pains. I thought I was crazy but I see other women with the same symptom. Thanks for posting this, convince me not to use tomatoes when I have my menstrual period
It is great when you find others just as crazy as you or perhaps that you weren’t crazy after all
My pleasure!
I couldve sworn at one point on certain sites they had told me to avoid tomatoes and then now its says we should eat them. I cant tolerate them, whether I have a tomatoe in a salad, or its soup , or pasta , i swaer my uterus swells right up. The pain is not fun at all. I had asked a friend of mine who also has endometriosis and she stated that she realised tomatoes were the worst thing for her to eat. So I personally avoid them and so does she. I love tomatoes but dont like the pain that follows so I will continue to keep them out of my diet as much as possible.
Thanks for sharing Veronica. That is really interesting. I have never been a huge fan of them but I can take them in small doses.
When I was seeing a naturopath he didn’t let me eat tomatoes. They are from the nightshade family of vegetables and he said that many of his patients can’t tolerate them well. He said he was trying to really give my “system” a rest, and tomatoes would not let it do that. I think he meant it is acidic and inflammatory. This led to lots of quinoa pasta with basil pesto instead of tomato sauce. I still don’t know if he’s right. His plan led me to reduce bloating and weight, but I felt weak and still had a lot of pain.
Thanks for sharing Melissa. I noticed that they just never really agreed with me. I actually hated tomatoes as a kid and would nag my mom that I didn’t want them. Maybe we should just trust our instincts on this one! Besides, I can’t say they are a huge part of my diet anyways. Sorry you still had pain though. Did he offer any other solutions we could explore?
Did my tomato experiment! Stomach ache was back for me too. As for the endo pain, I had been in pain already since earlier in the week and it didn't seem to make it worse, and it sure didn't make it better either. So it looks like I need to stay away from tomatoes or eat them in small quantity. I'll wait a couple weeks or so and try it again…
Hi Annabelle,
Yes, I was also wondering if I should try it again but then the pain was so nasty I doubt I will! Perhaps I shall try it again once I have settled down a little and there are less other factors that might be causing it!
