I am sure most of you know by now that I love going to the library for my source of inspiration and research for this blog. I often go there and spend hours there. I find a wealth of free information all about our healing and our body which naturally I love sharing with you. Well, the other day I went and I was a little time pressured so I just picked up any old books that looked vaguely interesting without reading the back cover first.
Anyway, so this week I picked up a book which is called Ancient Healing for Modern Women: Traditional Chinese Medicine for All Phases of a Woman’s Life. I actually had no great hopes for this book. I thought it would be the usual scenario of not really understanding Chinese Medicine and me trying to dis-cipher what they were saying. It is getting quite chilly over here in New Zealand …. so I have been having hot baths most nights. Tonight was one of those nights and I picked up the book as my companion in my usual hour long bath. It was an absolutely amazing book!
I will be sharing more with you on it over the next few weeks but thought I would just introduce you to some of the concepts.
In the book Xiaolan Zhao explains the connection between our liver and our emotions and how closely tied these are to our Uterus and everything that occurs in that area. She explains things so beautifully. Within the Chinese culture our menstrual cycle is not something they dread each month but it is a seen as a celebration. They call it our “Heavenly flow”. Now I can honestly say that I would have never considered my monthly period anything but hell…..ha ha but it really opened my eyes onto a new way of looking at our cycle and our womanhood.
The biggest thing which I love about Chinese Medicine is how they recognise a block in the body. There are a number of stories of women who have suffered with either menstrual problems or Endometriosis or fertility. When they delve into each story, there is always an emotional connection to the conditions they develop. They describe it as a block in a meridian line. We have one key meridian line that runs from our feet, along the inside of the ankle and all the way up to the eyes. It is all connected and all connected to the liver. They describe the imbalance of anything related to our hormones and uterus as a liver Qi imbalance or Kidney Qi imbalance. The block in the meridian line symbolises an emotional block which we hold in our body. I can totally relate to this on so many levels.
See, as much as all these natural methods will help your healing….. they will do only that HELP. They cannot completely heal your body as the imbalance is caused by an emotional block inside of you. Each one of us is different and that block will come from a different source. If you have read any of my past blog entries you will know that mine come from a brother that died when I was only 5 or 6 years of age. I have dealt with a massive part of this pain and I believe very strongly that this is the reason my Endometriosis is so dramatically reduced. I have let go of anger, pain and guilt which I felt for many years towards my mother relating to this loss. I always believed that I had let her down by not saving her child. This was my child-like theory, which I guess developed at a young age and though it wasn’t logical, was something I carried with me for over 25years. It was a massive burden on me and I believe it is why the Endometriosis developed in me. Your reason might be different but there is definitely a reason you have it, from a purely emotional point of view.
Yes, we can blame all the other factors and yes they do play a part in our healing but ultimately they only give us strength within our well-being. Physical and emotional strength to focus and deal with that pain, the one you hold from an emotional point of view. See, focusing and delving into that stuff requires courage and energy, positive energy. Without a good sound grounding from strong nutrition, good exercise and a positive outlook you won’t find that courage.
When we are in constant pain we don’t have any energy or ability to even think about all that stuff. It is too hard and too far from our current reality. It is only once we feel physically stronger that we can even consider going there. Make sense?
It took me years to come to these realisations. Years and years. I delved into so many aspects of healing for my body and tried every “miracle cure” but ultimately my greatest healing was when I confronted that pain, the pain in my body and within myself. It is that pain that you have there, it is just sitting in you and you can feel it, when you think of it. You are not sure where it comes from or how it got there, but it is there and when you focus on it, you can feel its presence really strongly. I went there, that sore place and dug around in there until I found my deeply buried emotions. It was by no means easy and I don’t profess that it will be for you either but I also believe it is the only way to completely heal yourself from Endometriosis. It can take years to peel away the layers of it all but it is something to at least open yourself up to.
We can get angry at the doctors, angry at God or our parents for giving us Endometriosis or we can take an honest look at our spiritual journey in this life and focus on what we are supposed to learn by it all. Endometriosis is a test on some level. You are tested to find the true source of the pain you hold in your body which has caused you to have Endometriosis. This is the emotional pain from an experience you didn’t know how to deal with at the time.
For some of you, this article is far to scary to even consider and you are likely to just dismiss it as me being silly Mel or that it must be the Dioxin or other factors which caused you to have Endometriosis but the reality is, this is a MASSIVE part of your healing and one that you really need to look at. When you are ready, you will hopefully remember this article and recognise its importance. For now, just remember that it is here.
If you feel you are ready to tackle things head on…. I would strongly advise seeking someone to take the journey with you. There are so many different ways of finding and releasing whatever emotion you are holding in yourself, that you will find one that works for you. I personally tried various different methods and felt most comfortable and got the best results from Emotional Freedom Technique. You can watch a video I did on my experience here.
I want you to get better and feel how free your life can be without this debilitating condition hanging over you each and every day. I want you to know that there is a way forward and life doesn’t have to be about working out how to pay for the next surgery. Life can be all that you dreamt up for yourself and so much more. You just need to heal the pain inside you first
All my hugs and love to you all,
Author of Cure Endometriosis & Eating with Mel.

I’m sorry for your loss as a child! We had deaths when I was young as well & one of them was my brother when I was 11. When I went to my naturopath for endo as well as my depression, anxiety/panic, we talked of the abuse I had as a child. He was saying that if I wasn’t abused, I may never even have had endo! Now I’m not sure I believe that 100%, but I do believe it played a role. There are other factors that contribute to diseases & some of us are just more susceptible than others.
Thanks for sharing. I still feel very strongly that these events do make us weaker to disease. There must be a reason why we have it and not every women in the world does. I guess we could also say that genes play a role. The interesting thing is. Though emotions may have triggered things, I believe it is diet and lifestyle that makes it easier to cope with endo and our emotions. It all kinda works together
