Why use MSM for Endometriosis and Fibro? AMAZING BENEFITS!

MSM or the non abbreviated version of Methylsuflonylmethane was one of those supplements that I had been taking for a few months last year, mainly because David Wolfe had recommended it. I had heard a few good things about it and just decided to try it. Well, I recently received a comment from one of my readers, who wanted to know more about MSM, so hence why I thought I would research why we should use MSM for Endometriosis.

What I found out was fantastic!

What is MSM actually?

MSM is a naturally occurring sulphur that exists within fruits, vegetables and grains. Unfortunately, due to over processing and heating, of these foods over many years, many of us are low on MSM in the body.

What does it do in the body?

MSM is an important compound that makes our cell walls more permeable.

Why use MSM it for Endometriosis?

When our cell walls become really thick and hard to penetrate, it makes it hard for the body to absorb nutrients into the cell and it also makes it hard for us to dispel the toxins from those cells. This means, we are not getting what we need, in our cells and it also means the toxins in our cells are staying in there. We want them to leave!

By making the cell walls more permeable, we also reduce the pressure in the cells. It is this pressure, that creates and inflammation and pain.

Toxins in our body are the source of all disease. We want to eliminate these as easily as possible. With Endometriosis, many of us have been overloading our bodies with toxins. These would include the contraceptive pill, in the form of Xenoestrogens, pain-killers and drugs, hormonal treatments and of course the foods we have been eating and the environment we live in, all compound to the toxic load on the body.

MSM is brilliant for Endometriosis and I highly recommend using MSM for Endometriosis.

How does this help our body overall?

By making our cells more permeable, we achieve many amazing things in our body:

1. Reduce inflammation and pain in the body

2. Improve digestion and alleviate funguses and Candida overgrowth

3. Improve skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles and stretch marks in the process. This also helps with acne and other skin conditions.

4. Reduce Athritis and back pain symptoms by healing collagen production

5. Improves our hair and nails in the process

6. Accelerates healing and detoxification as the enemy substances to leave our body

How dow we know if we are MSM deficient?

  • Gastrointestinal Symptoms
  • Poor Immune system – major symptom of Endometriosis
  • Arthritis or joint pain
  • Rheumatism
  • Memory Loss
  • Acne
  • Brittle nails and hair

How much to take

Initially, we are going to build up the body with MSM, if we show the above symptoms and want to provide the body with what it needs. This means gradually increasing an amount of 500g/day each week and then ultimately work up to 10Grams per day. Then just maintain about a teaspoon a day.

Initially, your body will go through a type of detox, in flushing out the toxins from the cells. This is why you don’t want to overdo it, in the initial stages.

Once your body has adjusted you want to increase the amount, to create permeability and get those toxins out.

Do I have to take MSM forever?

No, of course not but obtaining MSM from our diet has proven difficult as the plant sources of what we eat, have very small traces of it – especially if we are eating highly processed fruits and vegetables. If we found a good source of Organic fruits and vegetables and ate them in their raw form, frequently, then we might be on a reasonable level within our bodies.

What should you buy?

MSM is often derived from fossil fuel material. I found a great supplier that is completely plant based and guarantees it’s quality.

Recommended supplier: Omica Organics

You can find the Omica Organics MSM, by visiting this new online store I found. It has some great other products for Endo!

It is called The Raw Food World. Check it out here.

To find the MSM, just type MSM in the search box on the right hand side.

I really had no idea how fantastic this supplement really was, when I took it and have ordered some for myself to add to my smoothies in the morning.

Have you used MSM? What results did you get? Did you feel better?

I certainly found I had a heap more energy and my digestion was much better! I am definitely going to maintain my use of MSM for Endometriosis over the next year, since finding all this out!

My wife is with endometriosis and have chronic pelvic pain because of scaring tissue which I saw for surgery video. I bought MSM for her pain. She have already taken MSM with 2g*3(morning, afternoon, evening) per day for about 2 weeks , which is jarrow optiMSM. She don’t feel pain relief. Does she increase her dosage? She also have taken chinese bitters and coptis for about weeks. I hope her improvement in her insomnia, hypothyroidism and endometriosis. One point is that her menstrual pain disappear in her cycle after taking MSM. It is very interesting.

The initial dosage should be higher and then a maintenance level is set in. The key focus however, is not supplementation but diet. Without a good diet, nothing is going to work. Maybe focus on cutting out gluten, dairy and sugar for starters and then look at supplementation Kris. You are a wonderful husband to care for your wife like this :)

Of course my wife follows with endo diet(Now, she is dermi-vegetarian). But she is still in pain. Now, She takes cheinese bitters+coptis+MSM+pycnogenol and natural progesterone cream(Progestelle oil). She will add Omega 3 oil for pain. I failed a vitalzym treatment for 1 or 2 months. It didn’t help in pain relief. After a month, I will also try it with MSM, because I read that the MSM may help to improve Enzyme’s performance. Before her surgery, I found Broccoprotect(made by broccoli seeds) may help to relieve pain which induced from inflammation of blood in ovary, which is my guess. Your information is always helpful to me. Thank you.

      Hi Kris,
The major part of all disease is it’s toxic load. You need to figure out what toxins are in your wife’s system and get them out. In some cases it might be Candida or a fungus but it could just be a build up after years of struggles.
I have been reading about a new herb called Milfoil – check it out :) I will write about it soon.
      All the best,

      Melissa

      Hey Kris,

It’s so good of you to buy her MSM. I just want to hear you advice on Chinese bitters and MSM, and what type of body condition would be suitable for taking that? How does you wife feel now?

      Thanks and take care,

      Ann

      Hi Ann,

      I’m sorry so late…
Recently, My wife’s chronic pelvic pain in left side disappeared. Her’s herbs were chinese bitters + coptis + MSM + Omega3 + natural progesterone cream(progestalle). I may think that MSM helped her cramps and omega3 or chinese bitters helps her chronic pelvic pain. She is still feeling shoulders and hip pains with insomnia and reduced stamina. Especially, shoulder pain appeared recently, and then I am surprised because Julia in sensiblehealth.com had already described it. I bought herbs, such as GCG and Curcuma in her’s website. I also purchased Taheebo tea and Krill oil following Juila’s advice. I am not sure if she will heal. However, I thank many sufferers for their information.

      Hi Kris,

Thanks so much for your reply. I am interested to try Chinese bitters, but I have concerns: I am a very thin person and have lost a lot of weight for the past 2 years due to bad IBS symptoms (loose stools/ cramp before BM), and I am not sure if Chinese bitters will make these things worse? A lot of women report weight loss after detoxfication, while I really don’t have any weight to spare… What have your wife experienced before and after taking Chinese bitters? Does she have any digestion problems?

The other thing is it seems your wife is really taking a lot of suppliments, how does she fit these things in? She doesn’t take them at one time, does she?

      Thanks again for your time!

      Ann

      Hi,ann

Actually, it is difficult for me to advise about a solution of your problem because my wife is still in pain. My wife was also diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Symptom, and she also might have lost weight with a less than 5 kg. I think she may not be severe case as same as you are. The chinese bitters may improve your digestion according to Julia, but I am not sure if it improved her digestion because my wife usually has very good digestion. It may help you to take a peppermint oil, try it.

Of course, it is difficult to take a lot of suppliments, but it can’t be helped for her healing. She take 1 tablespoon apiece of chinese bitters and coptis in the morning and everning(going to bed). Omega3 oil(including Krill oil) is had with meals(in the afternoon). Immediately after lunch, taking MSM. Pycnogenol are taken only during her menstration. Coptis and Curcuma will be taken after it arrive.

Start chinese bitters from 1/4 or 1/8 teaspoon first.

      Good luck.

So interesting! It does so many great things!

I watched a Youtube video not too long ago about MSM and how it helps with skin elasticity after weight loss. I had no idea of its benefits for Endo as well. Double win!

Great article! Wondering how to determine what to try from your recommendations and what not to. I’m seeing a Naturopath and he has me on a bunch of supplements, so I’m concerned about them reacting w/each other or getting too much of something?

    • Melissa September 12, 2012 at 5:18 am #

      Hi Amy,
You can’t really go wrong with supplements. If you are taking herbs, it is a little different. MSM is a naturally occurring ingredient in fruits and vegetables, so it is a fairly safe product to take. Ask yourself if it resonates with you? If so, then get some. :)
