MSM or the non abbreviated version of Methylsuflonylmethane was one of those supplements that I had been taking for a few months last year, mainly because David Wolfe had recommended it. I had heard a few good things about it and just decided to try it. Well, I recently received a comment from one of my readers, who wanted to know more about MSM, so hence why I thought I would research why we should use MSM for Endometriosis.
What I found out was fantastic!
What is MSM actually?
MSM is a naturally occurring sulphur that exists within fruits, vegetables and grains. Unfortunately, due to over processing and heating, of these foods over many years, many of us are low on MSM in the body.
What does it do in the body?
MSM is an important compound that makes our cell walls more permeable.
Why use MSM it for Endometriosis?
When our cell walls become really thick and hard to penetrate, it makes it hard for the body to absorb nutrients into the cell and it also makes it hard for us to dispel the toxins from those cells. This means, we are not getting what we need, in our cells and it also means the toxins in our cells are staying in there. We want them to leave!
By making the cell walls more permeable, we also reduce the pressure in the cells. It is this pressure, that creates and inflammation and pain.
Toxins in our body are the source of all disease. We want to eliminate these as easily as possible. With Endometriosis, many of us have been overloading our bodies with toxins. These would include the contraceptive pill, in the form of Xenoestrogens, pain-killers and drugs, hormonal treatments and of course the foods we have been eating and the environment we live in, all compound to the toxic load on the body.
MSM is brilliant for Endometriosis and I highly recommend using MSM for Endometriosis.
How does this help our body overall?
By making our cells more permeable, we achieve many amazing things in our body:
1. Reduce inflammation and pain in the body
2. Improve digestion and alleviate funguses and Candida overgrowth
3. Improve skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles and stretch marks in the process. This also helps with acne and other skin conditions.
4. Reduce Athritis and back pain symptoms by healing collagen production
5. Improves our hair and nails in the process
6. Accelerates healing and detoxification as the enemy substances to leave our body
How dow we know if we are MSM deficient?
- Gastrointestinal Symptoms
- Poor Immune system – major symptom of Endometriosis
- Arthritis or joint pain
- Memory Loss
- Brittle nails and hair
How much to take
Initially, we are going to build up the body with MSM, if we show the above symptoms and want to provide the body with what it needs. This means gradually increasing an amount of 500g/day each week and then ultimately work up to 10Grams per day. Then just maintain about a teaspoon a day.
Initially, your body will go through a type of detox, in flushing out the toxins from the cells. This is why you don’t want to overdo it, in the initial stages.
Once your body has adjusted you want to increase the amount, to create permeability and get those toxins out.
Do I have to take MSM forever?
No, of course not but obtaining MSM from our diet has proven difficult as the plant sources of what we eat, have very small traces of it – especially if we are eating highly processed fruits and vegetables. If we found a good source of Organic fruits and vegetables and ate them in their raw form, frequently, then we might be on a reasonable level within our bodies.
What should you buy?
MSM is often derived from fossil fuel material. I found a great supplier that is completely plant based and guarantees it’s quality.
Recommended supplier: Omica Organics
You can find the Omica Organics MSM, by visiting this new online store I found. It has some great other products for Endo!
It is called The Raw Food World. Check it out here.
To find the MSM, just type MSM in the search box on the right hand side.
I really had no idea how fantastic this supplement really was, when I took it and have ordered some for myself to add to my smoothies in the morning.
Have you used MSM? What results did you get? Did you feel better?
I certainly found I had a heap more energy and my digestion was much better! I am definitely going to maintain my use of MSM for Endometriosis over the next year, since finding all this out!
