I was trying to work out why I was in so much more pain this last month than usual and it has taken me a whole series of analysis to establish what I have done differently. I couldn’t work out why it was so dramatic and yet I had changed nothing in my diet, my supplements or anything else that was obvious to me….. initially.
Then it came to me. I wasn’t doing my Yoga every morning like I used to. Well, the main reason is that I have this temp role and it is a huge distance from my house and well, lets just say it would require me to get up at 6am to do Yoga and everything else. Now, I know for many of you 6am is probably your normal routine but for me that is waaaayyyyy too early to be up! The birds aren’t even up yet!
I just struggle to get up in the mornings! Do you have this problem? I just find I need ages to even wake up while I am still lying in bed and then it takes another good 30minutes to even speak and comprehend things! It is horrid and James often makes jokes about my zombie like appearances in the mornings! There is a reason you don’t see any video’s of me making breakfast
What I wanted to know is why I struggle so much when James just seems to bounce out of bed and is almost instantly awake.
Here are some interesting things you may not know about sleep and how it affects you when you are awake:
- The more awake you feel the next day indicates the level of sleep you experience. So, in other words how deeply you sleep.
- You body does all its healing and processing of toxins while you are sleeping. So, it is normal for us endo girls to therefore need more sleep but we should be focusing on getting deeper sleep rather than lots of it – quality versus quantity.
- The way that you fall asleep greatly affects the deepness of your sleep.
So, I started to assess all of this and worked out what I could do to aid in my now getting up at 6am to ensure I do my Yoga in the morning…..
Here is what I need to do and things you should try:
- Move away from the laptop and television after 8pm. This is incredibly hard for me as I am sure you know by now I love my laptop and writing to you
- Burn some soothing oils in the bedroom before you get into bed. These should be nice and soothing scents like lavender, ylang ylang and cedar.
- Make sure your bed is somewhere you feel warm and comfortable. Get some nice sheets and wash them with rose water to get a beautiful smell through them.
- Make the room really dark. So dark that you can’t see out. This has to do with Melatonin levels but essentially it makes sleep easier and better.
- Drink some sleepy tea. This usually involves Chamomile tea and other relaxing teas.
Well, that gives me no excuses to getting up for Yoga!
So, no excuses for you either! Get up and enjoy the sunrise!
