Abby shares her story of Endometriosis, pain and ultimate resolve. Can you help Abby in a small way to for fill her life dream?

Abby wrote to me just before Christmas and I thought I would share her story with everyone, so you can perhaps find some peace within your heart and destiny.

Here is her story:

Dear Melissa-
My name is Abby Cornelius and I am 28 years old. I have suffered from endometriosis as long as I’ve had my period. I was diagnosed via laproscopy in 2009 with Stage IV after trying to conceive for over a year. My husband and I anticipated there would be complications do to the endometriosis but weren’t prepared for all that lied ahead. Now 2 1/2 year later, my endo pains began to be so severe I felt I had to choose between another surgery or birth control pills, neither of which I was excited about. We spent years at a Reproductive Endocronologist office doing tests and procedures. I’ve always wanted a child and sitting in an office having a doctor tell you you will not be able to conceive on your own is very devastating. We tried everything but IVF. I didn’t do well with all the treatments and hormones etc, it was too much for me emotionally and physically. I didn’t feel comfortable moving forward with IVF as our odds are very low and I just wanted to get back to enjoying life again.
I found your site several months ago, and decided if I am willing to put as much time, money and effort into medical treatments that didn’t work, why not try the natural way. I have been seeing a chinese herbalist and acupunturist since September. I go twice a month and take herbs daily she has perscribed. I changed my diet and went gluten free for several weeks, and now do limited gluten. I enjoyed reading your blog to keep me honest and remind me it can work. And let me tell you IT CAN AND DOES!
I have been off birth control for 3 months- no need to be on meds that dont help! My periods have been only 3 days long and normal, not heavy. I have some cramping on the first day of my period and again at ovulation, but nothing that puts me in bed like it used to. My energy is better and I can’t believe that in such a short time its made such a big difference. My husband and I have decided to move forward with Adoption. We still want to be parents more than anything in the world, and my diet/acupunture is my pain management but I am fully aware I am most likely unable to have kids do to my severe case. I am overjoyed to be adopting. I feel at peace with the idea and at peace with the fact that I am finally managing my pain too. Adoption is a timely process and also expensive.
To help get us closer to being a family sooner than later I have taken on fundraising. I have a contact who makes these  awareness bracelets for various causes. She has made these beautiful Endometriosis Awareness Bracelets.
I am able to sell them for $15/each (includes shipping in the US), and proceeds will go to my adoption fund. I wear my bracelet daily and tell those who mention how beautiful it is about Endometriosis to help raise awareness. If any of your readers would like a bracelet they can follow this link: http://theadoptionoption-cornelius.blogspot.com/2012/01/endometriosis-awareness-bracelets.html

Also I would recommend you post the bracelet on the Facebook site since it will reach a lot of Endo women! The group on Facebook is Endometriosis Support Sisters/ Awareness Group. They have over 2,000 supporters!

That was a wonderful story. I really hope you can start your family soon! I am so happy to hear the diet has worked! I have felt much better by just cutting out meat and have also tried eliminating most gluten! They make this great pasta at Trader Joe’s now that is brown rice pasta and it is better than regular pasta! I’m glad I am seeing more gluten free everywhere and it is becoming a craze!! Good luck with the adoption process and I hope you continue to feel better!
